|---|---|---|
Description and history of Tui-Na massage.Tui-Na is a deep-tissue medicinal massage therapy from China. Literally the words Tui and Na mean pushing and holding. Tui-Na is thousands of years old and is one of the earliest medical forms to treat disease. Mankind's ancestors would have spontaneously used rubbing, kneading, pressing and stretching to keep out the cold and relieve pain due to injury or tiredness. Those early Tui-Na techniques developed over time and today Tui-Na is used in Chinese hospitals to deal with various complaints such as muscle strain, back problems, injuries and a whole range of internal disorders, as well as to prevent disease. Through skillful massage techniques along with stretching and manipulation Tui-Na treats the whole person, affecting both the physical and emotional imbalances. Tui-Na therapy, which uses fingers, hands and elbows, affects the flow of Blood and Qi (energy) in the body, to restore harmony. As well as working at the subtler energy level, structural disorders of the musculo-skeletal system can also be addressed. Tui-Na deep tissue massage loosens tight muscles, helps lymphatic drainage, and is very effective in breaking down scar tissue to accelerate healing. During treatment you remain fully clothed, although Chinese medicinal oils may be used after massage on the neck, lower back or on other areas of pain to bring warmth and increase the circulation of Qi and Blood to help relieve any pain. It is best to wear comfortable non-restrictive clothing - (cotton tracksuit; T-shirt and leggings; or similar are ideal).
The Chinese Philosophy of achieving and maintaining good health. The unbroken development of Chinese civilization through the ages has meant the gradual accumulation of knowledge and experience of generations of physicians. This gives Chinese medicine a unique theoretical basis and the benefit of many centuries of empirical wisdom. Traditional Chinese Medicine consists of four disciplines:-
The philosophy & theory of Chinese medicine governs all four disciplines. The Chinese theory of disease is that all physical and emotional problems cause disruptions in the body's flow of life energy or Qi, which can then become stuck or deficient. Tui-Na can unblock stagnant Qi, move excess Qi and tonify deficient Qi through the same meridians and points used in acupuncture that run through the whole body and connect to the internal organs. Touch is a very important medium that is often lacking in our modern day Western society. Tui-Na massage is a very therapeutic and holistic treatment to restore health and well-being and prevent illness.
